Barbara started working with materials she collects beach combing in the Pacific Northwest 25 years ago. There she finds an abundance of kelp, seaweeds, shells, driftwood, sea glass and jetsam. Her aim is to work with this bounty to create sculptures, baskets and abstractions. Barbara feels a deep connection to the woodlands, mountains and shores of the Pacific Northwest and her inspiration often comes from her deep sense of place. Traditional art of the area’s Native Americans also helps to shape her work.
